A social role is being defined as a set of interlinked behaviors, rights, duties, beliefs, and standards as theorized by individuals in a public situation. A social role can be considered as an anticipated or free or incessantly varying behavior and might have a particular discrete social status or a position in society. It is integral to not only the functionalist but also the interactionist considerations pertaining to society. One example of a social role could be the role of an adult. An adult must stay away from irresponsible and wild behavior and must instead exhibit traits such as accountability and responsibility. Social roles are determined by the situation and the setting that the individual is in. There are circumstances where the set types of behavior that define roles might give rise to intellectual disagreement in people. Role conflict can thus be considered as a distinct kind of social conflict which occurs when a person is compelled to assume two distinct and unrelated roles simultaneously. In the case of social settings , an individual might encounter clash between her responsibilities as a mother and her responsibilities and tasks as a staff member of an organization. Role conflict, in this case, may occur if her infants requirements for time and devotion divert her from the obligation of being a manager of the company she is working for. Similarly, another example of role conflict is a situation where a person has difficulty deciding upon which of the two roles he/she needs to carry out, even though the roles are not essentially contrary. A very common example of role conflict can b e an employer, who has to terminate the service of an employee who also happens to be his friend. (Openstax, 2015). Social stratification can be defined as society's classification of individuals into socioeconomic divisions, on the basis of their occupation and earnings, money and public status, or obtained power (societal and governmental). In this respect, stratification can be described as the relative societal status of individuals within a specific social unit, group, geographic area, or communal division. In contemporary Western civilizations, social stratification characteristically is categorized as three distinct classes, the first being the upper class, the second being the middle class, and the third is the lower class. Apart from these divisions, every class is then subcategorized into strata, which is the upper, middle, and lower stratum of society. Additionally, a social stratum is also likely to be forged that is centered on the ideas of kinship or class, or both of these. Economic stratification refers to the process of categorizing and distinguishing people on the basis of their economic status instead of their caste, class, or gender. Economic stratification is closely linked with global stratification and global inequality as it affects the quality of life of people all over the world. Economic inequality primarily means the concentration of economic resources in just a few parts of the world, while the other parts are neglected, thus resulting in poverty. This is evident in the case of India where people who are afflicted with extreme poverty are unemployed and live in slums. As far as the United States is concerned, economic forces, like those of outsourcing as well as automation, are dividing the labor force, with a majority of the job prospects being either the ones that are low-level, low-wage, manual tasks or higher-level, well-paying jobs that are founded on abstract abilities. The role of women in the staff has been on the rise, however, it is evident that women have not been able to achieved total economic equality. Racial groups are generally categorized by regions as well, along with distinctions on the basis of skin color. Racial minorities are groups that are segregated on the grounds of them being different on certain grounds pertaining to race. The Scapegoat Theory indicates that the dominant group will eventually shift its unfocused antagonism onto a lower group. In the case of America, the minority groups are often at the receiving end of antagonism from the dominant groups in various parts of the nation (Massey, 2016). As far as housing facilities for minorities are concerned, a primary concern has been redlining. Redlining is essentially the practice of refuting mortgages for residences and businesses that are situated in mostly minority groups, whereas sedimentation pertaining to racial inequality defines the intergenerational effect of not only practical but also legalized racism which restricts the capacities of black citizens to amass wealth. This aggravates the issue of racial segregation even more by increasing tension between both the majority and the minority. Apart from this, another instance was the de facto separation that was done in Fergusons schools, a race-grounded wealth divides, city sprawl, as well as a black unemployment rate that was three times as much as that of the white unemployment rate. Research revealed that individuals who are transgendered are twice more likely to suffer an assault as others, which is why their safety was a concern. The public must thus be educated about gender identity so as to avert the occurrence of such instances of violence. They coined the terms â€Å"modern† and â€Å"ancient† and saw Middle Ages as a long break from enlightenment. In addition to that, according to the City University of New York at Brooklyn, â€Å"immense hunger for learning about classical antiquity was reborn† after the Middle Ages.* During the Middle Ages, there was a mentality that individuals should devote their lives to the church above everything. In that time education was exclusively based on religion. Many scholars were fixated on the idea that faith was more important than mind and reasoning. This situation changed when Renaissance thinkers split from medieval tradition and emphasized individual experience and materialistic approach to life instead of religious duties. This philosophy emerged due to Italians exploration and revision of the ancient Roman and Greek texts and scriptures partly because they were surrounded by the remnants of Roman Empire and they have noticed the disastrous place Western culture has landed on. They greatly expanded the ancient works and innovated new ideas. Intellectual people such as writers, sculptors, architects were valued in the society, unlike Middle Age times. There was now a new worldview called humanism which valued human beings and brought attention to the human ma gnificence in both physical and mental areas. Humanism also brought increased enthusiasm in exploring things and quest of knowledge. Renaissance intellectuals at the time were in awe of these fresh ideas. With printing press’s invention by Johannes Gutenberg allowed for far-reaching access to important secular books and literature and most importantly Bible. It became normal for common people to read and think in their own language. This meant vernacular-meaning their mother tongue- literature aided with the spread of humanistic ideas beyond intellectuals of the time. Writers like Petrarch and Dante wrote in Italian and believed everyone should be able to read in their languages. Scientists also began to value observation over religious teachings and viewed everything with skepticism. They examined their theories by evidence. Even sometimes some scientists like Galileo Galilei gathered enough courage to speak out against the Church. But Renaissance didn’t exclusively mean separation from religion altogether, rather abandoning old Middle Age values and bringing new insights to the human perception of life, art, and everything. Rhetoric was born as a consequence of this. Renaissance was possible thanks to the recovery of Roman and Greek literature by scholars of that time. Latin was also used that time but it was more academic and monkish. Upon revisiting Latin texts in a more secular view people began to shift their consciousness and appreciate ancient culture. They thought they were alike in a worldly sense. They believed they had the same delicacy over important matters and they both believed in the humanities power to tackle everything. Then they started to study Greek which inspired Romans. The Greek manuscripts were present in Italy because during the fall of Constantinople many Christian scholars fled to Rome. They brought tales of Homer and many other important books. This spur philosophical inquiries. These maniscruptures made people start thinking about virtues of the human soul. They were also interested in the usage of language its effects itself. Historian Bruni once said â€Å"knowledge alone is not enough, we must add the power of exp ression to make effectual use of what we know† implying rhetoric. Ancient writings had the other function too. They offered practical teachings about life. They consisted of not theological but moral grounds with given answers secular in nature. This was at its most basic, a belief in the identity of the human spirit under its all epiphanies. They found that in classical texts there existed an ideal of human life, both moral and intellectual, by which they can profit now. During the Renaissance period, people’s views on mankind changed drastically. With Renaissance, the focus on God and religion as the main character shifted to human himself. During this era, art showed people as god-like creatures who were in their perfect shape. There was also inclination for wealth accumulation and striving for better living conditions. Involvement with everyday life and taking care of themselves was becoming the norm. Public duties for common men were often overlooked and praising of extraordinary men with dreamable qualities was taking place. The goal was the manifestation of hu mans unique powers and showing their ability to steer their circumstances using willpower. Their destiny was not up to some higher being rather people with their own being paving their way to achieving the maximum of everything they get their hands on. Individuality was welcomed and people realized they were different on the inside than everyone else and made sense of themselves in the universe and complicated social structures. This obsession with humans can be even seen in almost every art branch of the time. Instead of focusing on traditional illustrations of religious symbols, artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo painted the human frame in every depth possible. With the help of anatomy, they tried to illustrate perfect detail, scale, and dimension. Also to improve upon their realistic values they relied heavily on depth and texture.* Space in their paintings was used to indicate a moving and vivid world with real human beings living ground. They used earthly, meaning tangible, objects to portray a realistic background. While earlier paintings had been 2d objects against white backgrounds and combined many scenes in one painting, Renaissance paintings focused on one particular scene or moment in time in a 3d realistic view like some scenery was localized and frozen in particular time and place. The culture of every ethnic group is beautiful in its own way and worth cherishing. Today, America is known as the great melting pot not for the number of immigrants it has but rather because of the wonderful cultures and traditions the immigrants brought with them. Immigrants do not need to forgo their mother tongue, significant celebrations or customs to become American. However to be socially accepted, they will need to learn English, take part in celebrating national holidays and fulfill their patriotic duties Americans like every other U.S citizens. It is important for immigrants to learn to speak and write in English while keeping their native tongue. Without knowing how to speak the common language here, it is impossible to blend†¦show more content†¦A big part of the problem is that they do not get enough experience speaking or writing in their parents’ native language (Population Council). However the bigger part of the problem is most immigrants’ method of parenting. Chinese immigrants’ way of raising their children to speak and write both Chinese and English fluently has proven that it is possible to raise the next generations to be bilingual. According to a study by Eddie Kuo, over 90 percent of the studied Chinese-American families mainly spoke Chinese at home, proving that Chinese are the only immigrants who truly hold on to their language everywhere they go. That is why Chinese is the most common language around the world, before Hindu and English (Ethnologue). It is such a big advantage t o know multiple languages; bilingual people always have higher chances of getting hired, especially if they are in the community in which that their languages are commonly used. Other ethnic groups should really learn from the Chinese and preserve their native language. Something immigrants should never give up is their traditional cultures, arts and celebrations. As mentioned above, it is these traditions that add in to the melting pot, making America such a wonderful and diverse country to live in.
